Matthew Hogan full Bio
Matthew Hogan,
a Chicago native, is the Organist and Handbell Director at St. Peter's
UCC in Elmhurst. He has previously served as Organist at
Immanuel
UCC in Indianapolis; and prior to that served as Director of Music at
Mayfair Presbyterian Church in Chicago. Largely seft-taught
as an
organist, Matthew was first introduced to the organ while attending a
Pipe Organ Encounter in Madison, Wisconsin. Subsequent training took
place in the form of several semesters of secondary organ lessons while
attending Indiana University. Matthew's formal musical
education
has primarily focused on the bassoon, having received his Bachelor of
Music and Master of Music degrees in bassoon performance from the
Indian University Jacobs School of Music, where he served as Associate
Instructor of the Bassoon Studio. His bassoon teachers
include
David McGill, Kim Walker, and Arthur Weisberg. Matthew is
currently second bassoon with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and
second bassoon with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.
Formerly, he was acting principal bassoon with the Carmel
Symphony Orchestra (IN), as well as contrabassoon with the Columbus
Indiana Philharmonic. As a soloist and chamber musician,
several
chamber music series' in Indiana and Illinois have featured him as
bassoonist, pianist, and organist.
