F.O.R.M (Fellowship of Retired Men)
FORM began many years ago when a number of retired church members, who
enjoyed each others company, got together for golf in the summer and
bowling during the fall. This fellowship led to occasional breakfast
meetings to which one of the members would talk about his special career
activity. In addition to the fellowship, we got to know each other better
and became informed about many new subjects. This soon became a monthly
event with a select committee (Facilitators) responsible for the preparing
and serving of breakfast, planning the program, and scheduling bowling and
golf, and planning special events to include spouses or friends.
Today many of the our group are in their eighties and attendance is
declining as the younger retirees seem to have other interests, so we have
begun to meet frequently with the former Women’s Guild whose membership
has also declined. This year we have scheduled three luncheon meetings
with the women and six regular breakfast meetings with the men. All of
these meetings feature interesting speakers and/or entertainment. All
members of the congregation are always invited to attend, and some
frequently do so when the program is of special interest.
Over the years we have actively initiated and supported special
projects like the Father and Son Banquet, Church dinners, special worship
service participation and fund raising.
While we have no financial budget, after covering food expenses, what
remains is given to support church activities and other needy programs. We
enjoy our time together and welcome all to share our fellowship and our
good times. |
